Emlanjeni Private Game Reserve

Emlanjeni Private Game Reserve is situated along the banks of the majestic Bushmans River in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The 6 sleeper, self-catering Lodge is accessible either by car (an 18 km drive from Kenton-on-Sea), or by boat (a 10 km meandering cruise from the Bushmans River Mouth slipway). The secluded lodge is nestled within indigenous riverine vegetation, and consists of 3 elevated units which are linked together with wooden decks and walkways, giving one the sense of being in the forest canopy.

The main bedroom has a king size bed and a luxurious ensuite bathroom. The bedroom has a balcony overlooking grasslands which are usually teeming with wildlife. The second unit consists of two bedrooms each with two single beds and ensuites. The rooms have large glass sliding doors, providing views of the surrounding forest. The open plan lounge, dining room, and kitchen is located between the two bedroom units, and flows out onto an outdoor entertainment area which has wonderful views of the river, as well as the surrounding bushveld. Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, Kudu, Waterbuck, Nyala, Bushbuck, and Impala are some of the mammals frequently seen occupying the areas surrounding the lodge.

The river is a 60 meter walk from the lodge and is accessed via a gate in the electrified game fence. Guests have the opportunity to moor a boat, swim, water-ski, canoe, crab, fish, or just enjoy a few sundowners from the private jetty. During low tide, numerous wader species of birds can be seen foraging on the mud banks.

The lodge has direct access and is in close proximity to the Ghio (Ngciyo) Wetland which provides habitat for numerous water bird species, including a resident pair of Fish Eagles. When conditions are suitable, flamingos can be seen feeding in the wetland.

*Due to the elevation of the Lodge it may not be suitable for Persons with mobility or physical disabilities or for young children. (The stairs, decks, and walkways do have balustrades).

*Travel Guide The access road to the lodge is gravel and can be slippery when wet. If the road becomes too slippery a shuttle service will be provided.
