The Diaz Deep Sea Club is Kenton’s local deep sea fishing club, and has been an integral part of the recreational fishing community for many years. The club is perhaps best known for hosting the annual SaltWater Masters tournament, a three-day Eastern Cape fishing event that includes deep sea fishing, river fishing, saltwater, shore and rock fishing – all in one. This year, the Club hosted the prestigious 2023 SADSAA Bottomfish Nationals in March.

The Diaz Deep Sea Club recognises that the conservation of our critically endangered species is important and promotes catch and release of critically endangered and vulnerable species such as Poenskop, Rockod, Miss Lucy, Scotsman and Red Steenbras.

Kenton-on-Sea is a surf-launching site where boats are permitted to launch off Middle beach. The Middle Beach surf launch site is protected by an outer reef that forms a natural breakwater, thereby ensuring a safe and fuss-free launching experience. It is recommended to use tractors to launch and retrieve boats from the beach due to the soft and loose sand on the local beaches.

It is recommended to consult locals first before attempting to launch from Middle Beach, and the Diaz Deep Sea Club is always open to accept new members who wishes to become part of the recreational community who shares their same values when it comes to responsible angling.

The newly created greater Addo Marine Protected Area that stretches from Boknes to the Port of Nqura plays a big part with the health of marine life in our waters as reef species spill over into our waters as their numbers continue to recover within the Marine Protected Area.
