Woody Cape and the Alexandria Dunefields are two beautiful natural wonders located in the Sunshine Coast. Follow the Golden Mile from Alexandria or from Cannon Rocks, to find Woody Cape, which forms part of the Greater Addo Elephant National Park and offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, and if you are lucky, whales and dolphins showing off in nearby surf.

The Alexandria Dunefields are the largest dunefields in the Southern Hemisphere, and stretch for over 50km of coastline and over 15,000 hectares. The dunefields are surrounded by Southern Coastal Forest, which boasts an abundance of species such as Coast Coral Trees, real Yellowwoods, White Stinkwoods, and Knobthorns.

The forest is home to several species of wildlife, including Bushbuck,Bushpig, Vervet Monkeys, Blue Duiker, and the rare nocturnal Tree Dassie. There have been recordings of Leopard and Brown Hyena in the forest and on the forest margins, but sightings of these elusive predators are few.

The forest also has many bird species, including the Trumpeter Hornbill and Knysna Turaco. There have been sightings of the Ground Hornbill in grassland pastures adjacent to the forest.

The area is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers.

The Langebos huts are available to hikers on the two-day Alexandria Hiking Trail or to those wanting an overnight stay in the forest. The 7km Dassie Day Trail starts at the huts, and the gorgeous Woody Cape coastline of the park is just a short drive and walk away.
